How We Review
LatestSounds exists to help you choose headphones, earbuds, speakers and soundbars with confidence. This page explains how our reviews and buying guides are put together, so you can judge how much weight to give them.
What our reviews are based on
Every review and buying guide draws on a combination of:
- Manufacturer specifications and documentation – battery life, codecs, weight, features and what's in the box, checked against the official product pages.
- Independent measurements and expert reviews – we compare our conclusions with published lab measurements and reviews from established audio publications.
- Owner feedback – long-term comments from real buyers help us spot comfort, durability and connectivity problems that don't show up in a spec sheet.
- Hands-on listening, where we have it – when we've used a product ourselves, we say so.
Each review states at the bottom what it's based on, so you always know whether a verdict comes from hands-on use or from research.
What we look at
For headphones and earbuds we focus on the things that matter when you're buying:
- Sound quality – balance, bass, clarity and how well the EQ lets you adjust it
- Noise cancelling – how well it handles planes, trains, offices and wind
- Comfort and fit – weight, clamping force and, because many readers ask, comfort with glasses
- Battery life and charging
- Calls, connectivity and app features – microphones, multipoint Bluetooth, codecs
- Build quality and value – how the price compares with close rivals
For speakers and soundbars we add room size, Dolby Atmos and surround performance, dialogue clarity and connections such as HDMI eARC.
How our ratings work
We rate products out of 5:

| 4–4.4 | Very good – an easy recommendation for most people |
| 3–3.9 | Good, with compromises you should know about |
| Below 3 | We'd suggest looking elsewhere |
Ratings consider price: a cheaper product can score highly if it offers excellent value.
Keeping reviews up to date
Headphone models and prices change quickly. We revisit our buying guides regularly, add new models when they launch, and show an "Updated" date at the top of each article when it has been refreshed.

Brands don't pay for coverage, don't see reviews before they're published, and can't change our verdicts.
